FREE DANCE FOR WOMEN

When the pandemic started, I moved my live NIA dance sessions (25 years)  to ZOOM and there I found a wonderful group of women who wanted the freedom to dance exactly as they pleased while sharing moves and energy with each other. It feels just like dancing with your friends as a teenager in somebody’s basement – that free, that silly, that expressive.

Some women choose to be invisible which is totally fine.  The dances are about 50 minutes long and you can arrive late and leave early.  There is no instruction per se although we all model for each other our dance moves, our yoga stretches, energy medicine, weights, self-massage, our backgrounds in, ballet, irish and Indian dancing, jazz, modern or no dance background at all.  You don’t need a lot of space.  I often say you could dance in a space the size of a phone booth.   What’s that? is often the reply.

I now have over 300 playlists all geared to be uplifting and energizing.  Our favorite pieces at the moment are Delibe’s Coppeilia, Jerusalema, Raised on Robbery by Joni Mitchell, Spamalot and Fiddler’s Despair by Natalie McMaster.

The dances are now four times a week and they’re free.   Sometimes, dancers give to charities.  Sometimes they offer me gifts which I adore or a family and friends rate at their cottage. But it’s absolutely not expected or needed. I need the dance as much as anyone.

If you’d like to try a dance out then email me at nguadagni@rogers.com telling me which dance day/time you intend to try and I’ll send you the link. Also feel free to ask me questions.  Let me know if you want to continue dancing with us and I’ll put you on the list where you’ll be notified of any changes to the schedule.

SCHEDULE as of November 2022

Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 10am

Every Wednesday at 12pm noon

Nicky is a brilliant teacher: engaging, caring, knowledgeable, supportive and a talented dancer and coach.

Each Sunday I get a wonderful boost of energy that lasts well into the week. She gives us a full body workout but remains nurturing and non-judgmental in her approach.

I started coming to Nicky’s dance class after my husband of 34 years died of cancer in the winter of 2008.  In the depth of numbness and the constant presence of absence, Nicky’s class with its vigor and gentleness became a welcoming routine and a refuge. Over the years, I have been able to work through my own grief and pull myself up through the music,  the joy of movement and the presence of women dancing as a group.  Honestly,  Nicky’s class has saved me! . Thank you Nicky for being there and doing what you do with such love and lightness!

I come because it’s the very best place to dance  my heart out to splendid, ever-changing music.

…very aerobic, good for circulation and heart.  A welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

Nicky’s class makes me happy!

Through our own life changes, through illness and loss and joys, we have all benefited from Nicky’s ability to impart her skill and her own joy of movement.
